Some observations (stats to be updated):
- Only 14 (out of 68+) networks have/announce IPv6 prefixes.
- Four networks have IX presence: AS132785 Shiv Nadar at Extreme IX Delhi, AS56056 Amity at DE-CIX Delhi, AS154174 Amity University Haryana at Extreme IX Delhi and AS137282 Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology at NIXI Chennai.
- TIFR as an organization has 4 ASNs (AS23770, AS58758, AS132524 and AS134322), BMS College of Engineering has 3 (AS45340, AS133552 AS136470), Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has 2 (AS58703 and AS151086) and Amity has two ( AS56056 and AS154174).
- AS2697, AS9885, AS38620, AS55824 and AS55847 ie Education and Research Network (ERNET) and National Knowledge Network (NKN) form the Indian NREN.
- 43 network have NKN as their upstream, while BSNL comes second as upstream for 21.
Let me know if I’m missing someone.
Update (11/04/2026): NKN made hundreds of AS allotments to educational institutions, AS147316 till AS148966, see transfers, so roughly 825(x2) allotments. None of the ASN are announcing anything or live in global DMZ yet. The reason I got from a source for 2 AS allotments and I quote - “it’s part of planning to allot /32 IPv6 to every institute and 1 or 2 ASN depends upon need “.
